Remembering the Great Jimmy G Gonzalez — featuring Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz

Set sail with us for the inaugural Jimmy G legacy Cruise, a voyage created to celebrate the life, music, and legacy of Tejano icon Jimmy Gonzalez.

Born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, Jimmy Gonzalez co-founded Grupo Mazz in the late 1970s and went on to lead Jimmy González y Grupo Mazz, a Tejano band that won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album a record six times — along with a Grammy Award of his own. Over more than four decades, Jimmy recorded more than 50 albums and gave Tejano fans classics like "Vuelve Conmigo," "Estúpido Romántico," and "Que Me Lleven Canciones." He passed away in 2018, but as fans across Texas and beyond will tell you, his sound never left the airwaves. 

Carrying that legacy forward is his son, Mike Gonzalez, who spent nearly two decades touring and recording as drummer and bandleader for Jimmy Gonzalez Y Grupo Mazz, contributing to multiple Latin Grammy-winning and nominated albums. After his father's passing, Mike founded The Iconiczz with a mission to bring a fresh, modern take to the iconic "Jimmy G sound." At every performance, the band honors Jimmy's legacy by playing songs spanning the decades — from his early career through his solo years — alongside their own contemporary hits.
